The Magnetic Theatre offers a stylistically diverse range of performances and programs that connect adventurous artists to a sophisticated audience. Our intimate venue in Asheville’s distinctive River Arts District makes the experience of seeing a performance a memorable event.

Each year, our Mainstage Season offers audiences the opportunity to experience new work by writers whose stories could only be told onstage. These productions are thoughtful, relevant, unfiltered, and boundary-pushing excursions that reflect world we live in and help us see it in new, surprising ways.  Since our establishment in 2009, we have produced a wide variety of styles and genres.

Asheville and the Western North Carolina region is brimming with inspired creative voices. In addition to our own productions, each year, The Magnetic Theatre provides space to other artists and creative groups who may not otherwise have the opportunity to do so.

At heart, we are a writer’s theatre. Our new play development program gives area playwrights the tools to fully develop and distinguish their voice. Our open script submission policy allows us to identify and cultivate the most exciting talent and bring those visions to life.

The Magnetic Theatre seeks to connect Asheville audiences to original, artist-driven theatre. We support emerging local playwrights and produce exciting work that has not been seen in this region. We work to encourage new perspectives by illuminating the human condition through diverse, challenging projects and cultivating a passionate creative community.

Original Work - We collaborate to create uncommon and refreshing theatrical experiences that reflect our commitment to producing truly original work in Western North Carolina. We cultivate an audience that expects to be challenged, and a community of artists that delights in risk and experimentation.

Community - The Magnetic Theatre is vital to the community because we provide a consistent outlet for local writers, particularly through our new play development program. We provide resources and host performances for many local organizations such as the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival and Asheville Creative Arts. Additionally, we partner with local non-profits, such as Arms Around ASD, to provide arts access to underserved populations.

Inspiration - We seek to create an environment of generosity, which inspires artists to take creative risks, in order to develop innovative, high-quality performances for our dedicated audiences. In addition to our Mainstage Season, we also host artist workshops, classes and staged readings, to contribute to our culture of constant growth and learning.
